An operational waste recovery site consented and permitted for the construction of a nature park using excavation, construction, demolitions and dredged materials.


The site is located adjacent to Thelwall Viaduct to the south east of Warrington off Junction 21 of the M6 motorway.


Planning Permission Status

The site has extant planning consent for the recovery of the inert materials from the construction and demolition wastes. The restoration scheme is designed to create wetland habitat and enhance the ecology status of this SSSI site.

This restoration project coveris 134 acres of land that is bound by the M6 Motorway the river Mersey and the Manchester Ship canal.

A former operational deposit ground linked to the Manchester Ship Canal, the site is being restored to an Ecological Nature Park using inert materials recovered from the construction industry.

Earthworks associated with this ecologically sensitive site are managed under long term lease agreements with our earthworks contractor with restored areas of the site are managed under a licence agreement between Peel Environmental and the Woolston Eyes Conservation Group.
