Further information

One of only four operational sand and gravel quarries in the Greater Manchester area covering 156 acres of former peat bog which was subject to peat extraction up until 2015.

The quarry has aggregate reserves of approximately 1million tonnes which are recovered through a dredging operation.

The site serves the Greater Manchester construction industry including the supply of concrete sands for batching plants in the north west of England.

Restoration of the quarry will be to wetland habitat and includes the re-establishment of raised peat bog which was historically drained prior to peat extraction.
